It is believed this custom originated from a Dutch bride who married her poor lover even though her father refused to give her a dowry.  Her friends embraced her and "showered" the lovebirds with gifts, an attempt to help them start their new lives together.

The Wedding Shower, also known as the “Hen Party” should a fun, exciting celebration.  Traditionally, women gather together to shower the bride-to-be with gifts and love; today, there are many couples showers.  It is the role of the Bridesmaids and/or Maid-of-Honor to organize the party.  The shower can be held in someone’s house, nice hotel suite, a restaurant or even a park.  Brady Events Wedding Consultants can help prepare the party and make all of the necessary arrangements.

Everybody brings and wears an article of clothing that is associated with sleepwear such as, pajamas, nightgowns, slips, teddies.  Put your sense of humor to work and have fun!  But make sure you are conscience of the guests and their feelings.  You want to make sure everyone feels comfortable and enjoys the party.

High Tea Shower

Host a proper high tea and set the atmosphere starting with the invitations.  Use card stock with a tea cup motif.  Ask the guests to come dressed in proper English attire, including a fantastic hat of course!  Use fine china and delight your guest with scone, crumpets, fine pastries and several delicious teas, such as black currant.

When choosing a shower theme, select one that reflects the Bride’s personality & interests.  Here are a few suggestions, but the possibilities are endless…

Romantic Shower

Ask guests to present the Bride with gifts that will inspire romance in her married life.  Items could include aromatherapy products scented candles, candle holders, bath bubbles, satin sheets, champagne, his-and-hers massage certificate at the spa.  This shower is especially fitting for the bride that has already been married or has an established household.
